Enchanting Corn Shuck Dolls

About Me:

Hello, my name is Debra Michelle Redden and I am a Third Generation Corn Shuck Doll Artist. Corn Shuck Dolls have been part of my life since birth; I learned how to walk among my grandmother’s corn shucks and developed a love for the art of corn shuck dolls at a young age. I created my first Corn Shuck Doll when I was around six years old under the instruction of my grandmother, Patricia Spradlin. During the past 30+ years I have enjoyed creating unique dolls from sheep to college graduates for family and friends.

With the encouragement of my family and friends, I decided to offer my dolls to the general public in November 2011. Since that time, I have enjoyed becoming an Exhibiting Member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists  and Craftsmen. I have also taken great pleasure in having several of my dolls adopted into good homes.

My dolls are created using the same techniques used by my grandmother, which includes using corn silk for the hair and hand drawn faces. Corn Shuck Dolls vary in size from two-inch “Littlest” Angels and eight-inch Country Maidens, Southern Belles, and Momma & Babies, to 13-inch Tree Top Angels. Nativity Scenes and Christmas tree ornaments.

I am a McCreary County native, where I currently reside with my three children - MaKayla, Jackson, and Emily.

My dolls are available locally at Tower Crafts General Store in Stearns, KY
